Abyrinth's Fire
Abyrinth's Fire is about Europe in an alternate timeline that diverged in the 1800's. Kings still rule, and the nobility wields real power. The main sources of energy are advanced steam engines and Abyrinth. Abyrinth can move machines in the hands of the channelers, but those of noble birth are given a 'brand' on their eighteenth birthday that will impart them with a random power. Some are mundane, but others are fantastically powerful.
Jafra Sobieski passes the trials and is given one of the strongest brands in all Europa. She will need it as the Rus are invading her beloved Polska. After a tragedy, she joins her older brothers in the military, using their incredible powers to fight back the invaders. She must also be wary of secret societies that will try to control her, or if that fails, kill her.
Her parents are seeking a husband for her, a political match that would strengthen their house, but she becomes torn between two men. Both want her, but for different reasons. Should she choose the man her mother prefers, or should she choose a man who would kill or die for her?
